In this 5th installment of the "Scrap N Craft" mystery series, Kiki Lowenstein is watching her daughter Anya participate in her private school's annual May Day celebration when a sniper opens fire, killing CALA (Charles and Anne Lindbergh Academy) alumna and major donor Edwina Fitzgerald and injuring her son Peter. While the Fitzgerald family (who own a major St. Louis brewery) has secrets and drama of their own, could Kiki herself really be the sniper's intended target? After all, the man who killed her late husband is still on the loose and has been mailing postcard threats to her and her family and friends. It also doesn't help that the (almost) ex-wife of Kiki's love interest, Detective Chad Detweiler, has a death wish on her as well.

What I like about all of the Scrap N Craft books (this one is no exception) is that there are strong, memorable characters as well as a fast-moving plot. If Kiki had enough troubles dealing with her mother-in-law, Sheila, Kiki's self-centered and difficult-to-please mother comes to town, wreaking havoc on everyone. Plus a mysterious woman, Claudia, who claims to be a friend to Kiki's mother, has a hidden agenda of her own. All this on top of Kiki dealing a new partner at the Time in a Bottle scrapbooking store where she works. Seems like her boss, Dodie, took on another partner without consulting Kiki first.

Like the other Kiki books, I found this one very hard to put down. The ending took me by surprise, especially since several elements don't appear fully resolved. I am now "chomping at the bit" for the next installment!
