They did it again.

I mean first and always, the covers are gorgeous. Steady and great, time and again.

That said, Girl on Girl was a really solid, smart story. It was big, big in a way that didn't seem ridiculous and like they were thinking "there's nothing stopping us, so why not?' They've done such a good job filling out 355 and Dr. Mann's characters and this was a nice side story for them. And uh...lesbians...like Chappelle said...

The real story was what would happen to the seas when all the men died. It's funny...the way the books are setup, I didn't realize til now...they let you get so focused on the conventional center of the story, keeping Yorick and hope alive, when it's just a cypher. They're like The Wire, that focus is just an excuse to explain each part of this world Vaughan built. And when I thought they ran out of things to focus on, or this Japan trip and ninja girl would be when it all gets campy and cartoony, they ground it with this.

But...that was good. That was 4/5...but this...

Boy Loses Girl (the story of Beth) was awesome. Better than even Heroes Story? Beth this side character and random pedestal chick just get this fever dream issue to float through so many sides of her character and their relationship. It's smart, it's funny, it's clever, it's got that magic realism and it makes that whole subplot something worth investing time on. 5/5
