Daire is your average teenager, beautiful and well-traveled thanks to her mother's wretched job as a Hollywood make-up artist who just so happens to have visions. When her hallucinations increase to the point where she attacks an up-and-coming teen star, her mother ships her to the grandmother she's never known for help. As a result Daire learns of her magickal responsibilities as a Soul Seeker charged with protecting the world (or at least the town) from the nefarious doings of the Coyote.

The initial offering of the Soul Seekers series had a somewhat sputtering start with good dialogue, sufficient mystery, but a slower pace that may work for adults. I wonder if it'll be less so with the YA crowd. With the love interest between Daire and Dace and Daire's animosity towards his twin Cade, the build-up is certainly there for the rest of the series. It's just very little is explained initially, which is why I give it three stars. In teen speak, it took FOREVER to get to the good parts where Daire meets Dace and we find out what Seekers are and what happened to her father. Of course this is so we keep reading. The tactic succeeded, becaues I definitely will read the rest of the series. I need to find out what an Echo is and make sure the baddies get a beating!
