I found this compulsively readable, and a very fine tale. I did, however, have problems with some few events that did not seem relevant or plot-worthy, and with the voice of the narrator, who seemed sometimes to be so unengaged from her own story that I could not hear her pain or find her joy.

However, the story's view of fairies is completely fascinating, and her take on magic not only sounding true but seeming real. The plot device of Mori's reading and commenting on many of the most powerful books in sf and fantasy is very compelling, especially if readers have read and loved and argued with them, too.
