The Hunger Games has an addictive quality to it. Something about the book makes it difficult to put it down. I loved the fast-paced and suspenseful action. I loved the world that the author created, and I loved the character of Katniss.

We feel for Katniss because we not only want her to survive, we want her to do so without becoming a monster. From the beginning we admire her, because she took the place of her sister - not being willing to let her be sent to her death in the games. Ater this, it seems there is no hope. She will either die in the games, or she will become a murderer. I think it is this sense of hopelessness that keeps us glued to the pages. How can this possibly work out? Suzanne Collins did a masterful job of taking us to a believable resoltion that may just change the world in which these characters live.

A great beginning to what is likely to be a thrilling trilogy. This is not your angst-filled story about teens pining after each other, this is a tale of sacrificial love and staying true to what you believe in.
