    <body><![CDATA[Overall, a great story, complex characters, and a neat look at the drama of being a kid, and just the drama of being a person.  Great protagonist and supporting cast.  Fun SciFi!<br/><br/>This book really grew on me as I read it.  It still carried a strangely harsh tone of &quot;me against the world,&quot; made interesting by the author's apparent Mormon roots.  Based on the Mormon's early American persecution, it made me curious to probe connections between O.S. Card's faith life and his writing.<br/><br/>&gt;&gt;<br/><br/>I'd wanted to read this for a while.  I heard it spoken of very reverentially among scifi fans.  I can see how it would impact a reader of a certain age/the same age as the protagonist.  It taps into the early teen feeling that the world is a strange and foreign place, and the sense of isolation that comes with that.  The tone of the story is surprisingly savage.  I wonder if it has a Lord of the Flies influence, in terms of how cruel kids can be to one another.<br/><br/>I'm about halfway through...reading on...]]></body>
