The positive: it's a whole lot shorter than the novels and this will likely reach a new audience, who might not have otherwise tackled the very good, but intimidatingly long works of George RR Martin.

The negative: it reminded me of the old Classics Illustrated comics (and not the 90's updates that cared as much about the story as they did the illustrations, using such amazing artists as Gahan Wilson and Bill Sienkiewicz). The artwork is pretty mundane and the coloring even made some text difficult to read. However, I was happy that the characters weren't drawn to look like HBO actors.

Overall: great way for readers to get into the show/series, but it doesn't offer anything new for current fans of the books.
