liked it

This is kind of an objectively bad book but I liked it anyway.

There were a lot of really weird technical isses, strange word choices especially given the setting (usage of the phrase "pretty dang" knocked me out of the narrative near the end) and it takes itself too seriously and not seriously enough in turns. Some of the characters are really loveable (Akeldama, Lyall) while some make hardly an impact for how major they are (Maccon). The worldbuilding is usually solid as well as the mythos, but the plot's pacing wasn't fantastic and the mystery's solution in general seemed at the same time too tidy and like there were a few loose bits that had been forgotten about.

Also I haaaaaaaaaaate the way the POV jumps around in this book but following the Goodreads guidelines this is way more of an "I liked it" than an "it was OK" so I guess it gets three stars even though it probably only deserves two.
