I think I just expected too much from this one. And it was my first Hiaasen, so I have no idea whether this is up to par with his other stuff. There was just a lot of (too much?) suspending disbelief for me (view spoiler). The writing is really good as is the characterization but I feel like Hiaasen was telling me what these characters were like a lot. Fun, but (for me) nothing special.

Erin Engle I liked Hoot, but haven't read any of his other work.

Steve H I'm on a downhill slide with Hiaasen's kids books. I liked Hoot a lot. Flush was OK. Scat followed the pattern of the others with pretty clear and predictable roles being played by the characters. I have Chomp on reserve and will get it fairly soon. I hope I'm not influenced by the cute cookies the publisher provided at PLA.
