This is the first novel I have read by Susan Hatler, and it was such a delight. This is the first book in the Mindreader Series. It was fast-paced and thrilling, and I am really looking forward to reading more. The main character, Kylie Bates is your typical high school student, trying to fit in, crushing on a guy, and kind of insecure. All of the sudden she discovers she has the ability to read minds. Her snarky personality and hilarious inner dialogue makes for some very entertaining moments, even in intense situations.

After discovering her ability and talking to her dad about it, an incident arises where her dad wants her to go to the police station to work with hottie detective Sam Williams to find a missing girl. It turns out that the hottie detective has an even hotter cousin, who just happens to be Kylie's age. Trip, the hotter hottie, works part-time at the station and is a want-to-be assistant detective. He gets involved with the missing girl's case and Kylie, and things begin to get really interesting. Trip is totally swoon worthy, and romance between the two ensues. They also have a really steamy first kiss. Kylie discovers that a lot of what she has been told about her life, her mother, her father, and her relatives has been a lie, and tries to discover why so many things have been kept from her. She also discovers more about her power, and finds that she is not the only one with an ability.

Shaken is a fast-paced combination of action, drama, and romance that will keep you in suspense, and keep you turning the page dying to see what happens next. Susan Hatler has done an excellent job writing the characters, they are so believable and fun to get to know, and the story line is great. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading more in this action-packed series.
