it was amazing

** spoiler alert ** While I am no english critic and cannot comment on the numerous references to other mythologies, Rilke's overall style and subject matter are amazing. He started writing these elegies at the Duino Castle after a period of "writer's block." During episodes of being unable to relate his life through poetry he would become depressed as he felt that all experiences worth having would eventually reveal themselves, and reveal themselves most accurately, through poetry. Until he described an experience or revelation with poetry he had the sensation that it had not truly occurred or been acknowledged.

Having the opportunity to compare the German to English translation, even with my poor german, is not necessary but pleasant none-the-less.
