Windows 95 was a big step from what I'd been using, that being Windows 3.11. After its introduction the appearance of Microsoft Operating systems stayed pretty much the same--or at least allowed one the option of the "classical" appearance.

I was a great consumer of operating system manuals from 1980 until maybe 2000, being resolved at that time to never repeat the expense of buying a 286 PC for over two thousand dollars back when that was the top-of-the-line processor. Henceforward I'd either build my own PCs or upgrade ones I'd find or be given.
