I love that this book is about a love affair between middle aged people. Technically De Blasi's writing is so full of frills, adjectives and fluff that I roll my eyes occasionally but she’s committed to it and I respect that. It’s not my style but neither is her decorating…

I came around to her by the end. I admire her perseverance in this relationship in spite of the inherent difficulties. She takes some of the romance out of the idea of marrying an Italian stranger but she adds some unexpected romance into the idea of being a foreigner in a foreign land.

Love = compromise.
