Masterful beginning. Sort of trailed off at the end.

Tightly plotted, lots of suspense, decent character work. I love the backstory. I didn’t love the little girl. I feel like he has trouble writing kids who act like kids. They’re always saying or doing things that don’t sound their age.

I wish the capture had been more exciting. It seems that after all that running and evasion and stealing and pushing and fire starting, the actual climax was anticlimactic and then everything wandered a bit.

But despite the criticism, I this this is a solid book. One of my favorites of his.
