This book is narrated by three people Erin, Travis, and Robin. Erin has lost her daughter to a tragedy and is trying to deal with a future without her daughter. Travis is Bella’s father. He has just lost his house due to a fire, lost his mother, Bella’s main daycare provider, and lost his job. He has fallen on hard times and is told by a friend that there is a job for him in Raleigh. Robin is Bella’s mother. She has never met Bella. She is engaged to the next mayor of Beaufort. No one knows about her having had a child.

The book revolves around a really stupid decision Travis makes to do this job in Raleigh. He leaves his daughter with Erin and just takes off. Erin doesn’t know what to do with Bella. She is going through her own stuff. There is a lot of action that takes place. The book is always moving. I couldn’t put it down. I love Diane Chamberlain’s books.
