What nagatives can I say about this book? As soon as I finished reading it, I raved about it to my family and my friends. The characters are complex, but each one is presented in such a vulnerable light, that they all feel more like life long friends then characters in a book. As far as debut novels go, I struggle to think of one with as much originality, compassion, and the ability to leave the reader feeling so upligted, despite the story including much death and suffering. Although possibly a slightly unrealistic plot, the pilgrimage of Harold Fry is merely a metephor for human ability when met with times of trouble. A really, really great book.
