Ever since my local grocery chain remodeled and included a prominent live lobster tank as one of their "improvements," I've been searching out books that promote compassion for these oft-ignored animals.

I was very pleased to find Lobsters on the Loose. This is what the poorly-packaged The Lucky Lobsters tried to do, but didn't get quite right. Lobsters on the Loose is a very colorful picture book filled with goofy, playful lobsters that children will adore. The book gently advances the idea that lobsters are much happier living freely in the ocean, in a way that won't automatically turn off omnivorous audiences.

I didn't really like the rhyme scheme of this book--I thought it was awkward--but its heart is truly in the right place. There are many kiddie books encouraging kindness to cuddly critters...we need more about the not-so-cuddly ones.
