This aims for fun & frothy historical romance, but the writing is just a bit short on the necessary sparkle - it ends at pleasant. The plot is about as plausible a representation of French revolutionary spies as an episode of Scarecrow & Mrs. King is of Cold War era spies, but the story of the Pink Carnation doesn't have the great chemistry between its leads (or that helpful gloss of nostalgia) to help it along. The main characters just never really breathed for me, though I did enjoy cousin Jane & chaperone Miss Gwen.
