Because not being for me doesn't mean it was poorly written--it wasn't.

Claudia Casper Agree. The writing is top drawer. But I am left thinking if a writer is going to go this dark and repellant in his story - I want to come away with something new - a new insight, a new form - both present in his earlier book Legends of a Suicide. There was nothing in this novel, other than the brilliant use of dirt as a trope, that hasn't been done before. I felt emotionally brought down for no purpose other than good writing. Not enough for me.
