Brief story, brief if inexplicable beginnings of romance, and a murderer so kooky I can hardy believe him or her (no spoilers here!) The initial problem, that of the main park ranger's danger of being ousted for someone who will help the Republican government steamroll through regulations on oil drilling was current and worrisome, and could have been developed much more than it was. One very steamy scene many readers will want to avoid. But Stabenow's writing is always (at least so far) excellent, and I thought that any holes in the plot were more than made up for by the author's delightful commentary.
