I read this while on vacation in Hawaii, planted poolside with a mango smoothie in my hand. As a light vacation page-turner, it wasn't bad. I enjoyed the relationship between father and daughter, and the mystery was decent, made a little more original by the setting. I enjoyed the way the mystery came together via the different perspectives (ie: father in the present, Megan in the past). However, it ultimately seemed anti-climactic, the denouement unworthy of the build-up. But what bugged me most about the book was the relationship between Pat (father) and the French cop helping him. First of all, it was wholly unnecessary. I hate it when a decent mystery is messed up by a "requisite romance." Secondly, the depth of passion-- and the speed with which it developed-- was completely unbelievable. So it ended up just frustrating me.

Petra Willemse I too hate the 'requisite romance' - glad you agree and it's not just me being bitter ;-)
