Lincoln Perry and Joe Pritchard are P.I.'s hired by the father of another P.I. who died of an apparent suicide. One problem is that the wife and daughter are missing. The father doesn't believe his son committed suicide and hires the detectives to find out the truth and to find his daughter-in-law and granddaughter. There were a lot of characters to keep straight..the FBI, police, Russian mobsters, friends of the dead guy, toss in a reporter or two and things can get pretty complicated. The reader doesn't find out until Pg 124 why Perry was fired from the police force. The killer's motive was pretty shakey in my opinion. And the fact that they let the killer go free at the end didn't sit well with me.
