A fun paranormal fantasy about a cryptozoologist living in the West Village. This reminded me a lot of the Alex Craft books (Grave Witch etc.) and the Storm Born series by Richelle Mead in that there's a lot of world building/backstory about various types of dead things/crazy creatures. As usual, I'd be happier if this wasn't a romance (why on earth is all this female-written/focused urban fantasy considered romance anyway, I'm sure there's a big backstory that I know nothing about), because the "I hate you!" "No, I love you!" gets old real fast. And just as when she's writing as Mira Grant, McGuire's habit of putting fake quotes from characters who don't appear in the book as chapter epigraphs is very annoying. Still, a fun read.
