Dr. Jeykll has a dual personality, and through the horrors/wonders of science has allowed the vile part of himself to become free. Brought down to it's basics, Dr. Jeykll finds a way to remove his 'ego,' which allows his instincts to roam free, and it comes down to 'id' vs 'superego' (hint: 'id' wins). Colleagues/friends see what is happening, detest the vile Mr. Hyde, and eventually Hyde overcomes Jeykll, and Hyde is then killed by Jeykll's servants and best friend.
