Recommended for: Mature readers (contains adult themes)
Read from March 19 to April 11, 2012

This book had an interesting premise and vivid, gorgeous descriptions. However, I thought its modern themes and messages were over-powering and felt out of place in its fantasy setting. I found the ending to be unsatisfactory and I felt that Katsa, the protagonist, showed a lack of significant growth. Also, I think it sends skewed messages about love, marriage, and children. Nonetheless, the book has a good pace and keeps you in nail-biting suspense until the end.
