A very pleasant surprise! Drita is a refuge from Kosovo who comes to NYC with her family. The chapters alternates between Drita's point of view and Maxine's, a girl in her class who becomes a friend. Strong themes of friendship/family/war//bullying. There is a bit of mental illness thrown into the story and handled very nicely. It also introduces students to the strife in the Balkans. You will cry at the end.
