The Secret Life of Bees

Books that make you believe you're really there are great. I could *feel* the sticky southern heat, see the women that Lily lived with telling their stories, smell the honey. A beautiful story, about coming of age, about prejudice, ugliness and kindness. If there were 3.5 stars available, that's what I would give it. I enjoyed it. There was just *so* much about Mary that it made me squeamish. And it really makes me think about how many Catholics have no idea of what they swear allegiance to when they join their church. They love Jesus, they're just confused. Hmm.
