really liked it
bookshelves: romantic, light, real, teen

Pros: Funny, snappy dialogue; engaging characters; sweet love story; most importantly, will really appeal to anyone who lives, eats, and breathes music, as in everything that happens inspires a soundtrack and their happiest place in the world is in the front row at a show.

Cons: Not totally believable, which isn't completely necessary in a relatively light, fun book like this, but tripped me up a few times. Would the girl who broke up with a guy and inspired a runaway hit song really become so famous she has to run from the paparazzi? I know we live in a fame-obsessed culture, but still...Also didn't really get the mean girl subplot.

But, overall, it brings up issues like having your words twisted and not being able to make your own voice heard, the struggle between some of the perks fame can bring and all the downsides, and the temptation to ignore what's going on with your friends when you're so wrapped up in your own problems.

Lots of swearing and references to drinking and drugs and sex, but Audrey is relatively well-behaved (doing well in schoool, getting home by her curfew, etc.). It's nice to read about a character who has a good relationship with her parents and is generally a "good kid" but who also likes to go to shows and have sex with her boyfriend and have a drink or two--so often it's one extreme or another.
