I love paranormal. I love legends and mythology. I'll admit WI has its fair share of weird & creepy. So when fellow WI author Lori Handeland put it all together in one gorgeous blue package, I didn't even need a shiny bow...

Heroine Jessie McQuade is NOT a girlie-girl. She is a hard-headed cop who is totally a see-it-to-believe-it, who specializes in sarcasm. When she gets a call to a ordinary-seeming car-hits-wolf-on-highway call, she has NO idea what she's in for. A shocky driver who thought the wolf was dead, went to check it out - and got bit. A wolf who SHOULD have been dead ran off into the woods. She tracks it - and finds a naked guy instead.

Soon she's up to her eyeballs in psycho werewolves, disappearing bodies, gun-toting "good ol' boy" vigilantes, and a really weird German werewolf-hunter. Everyone's after a wolf totem she found and will stop at nothing to get it - and use it to raise the "wolf god" and take over the world.

The one guy who might help her is Native American activist Will Cadotte. He knows more than he's letting on, and she's not sure she can trust him. He's a distraction she can't afford. But she can't seem to resist him...

This was an awesome blend of Native American myth & legend, a twist on history and not your typical werewolf tale. Lori Handeland really nailed that hardheaded northwoods mentality where the DNR works for Satan BUT the greatest punishment on earth is the loss of your hunting/fishing license... I also loved a pragmatic, sometimes-bitchy heroine who is forced to reevaluate her whole belief system. Definitely worth reading!
