First and foremost, you should know that I didn't finish this book. I read about three chapters and gave up - not because it was bad, but because it was meant for middle schoolers. Second Kiss is about a young girl and her best friend growing up, adjusting to their new found adulthood and their feelings for each other. I don't have a problem reading middle school novels, but I simply did not like Palmer's style of writing or the main character, Gemma's, personality. Furthermore, Gemma and Jess seemed far too young to be venturing into the type of relationship that was evidently going to blossom throughout the novel. I am sure that younger readers may love this, which is why I gave it two stars. This review is not meant to discourage readers from reading this book (because it did get some very good reviews); however, it was simply not the book for me.
