Hello
What caught my eye was the cover, which is striking but not over bearing. I love fantasy and magical stories and as a recent purchaser of the Kindle, I was intrigued to find out what it's like to download, carry and use a Kindle. Naturally, one of the first books was this one.
I won't deny the fact that zero price had a bearing on my decision.
After reading it I would be very happy to pay for the story, which I did for book 2.
I won't give a synopsis of the story, but it's an easy read and you can get through the story pretty quickly.
As a first publication I think from a readers point of view, Alison Pensy did a really good job. You won't satisfy everyone, but as one who in in a similar positon, I was very happy with the result.
It's a fast paced book, with nothing that slows the story down. You get the know the characters pretty quickly. It will definitely appeal to the teenager market, as the hero, Faen is tall, well built, and one to 'dye for!'
That part of the story is played out a little too often, but as a man reading this kind of story I am probably being a little biased.
The story could of had a little more work on the realm of the faeries, but again, that is my personal opinion.
The character development between daughter and father is good and you feel that the two really do have a strong relationship.
I think the end could of been a little longer, and few more 'dangerous moments'.
All in all, an excellent story that is innocent, dangerous, loving and about building trust, friendships and finding one's self in this world.
I think if Alison Pensy carries on, then her next books can only get better, and I will certainly spend time reading her work.
