A good story, but not a great one.

Like a lot of graphic novels, this one gets its title from its most prominent character, but while it's in the universe of that character, isn't necessarily about that character. This is one such example. Batman appears in this story, but it's main character is either Dr. Jeremiah Arkham, or the Arkham Asylum itself, depending on your point of view.

The story begins well, but slows through the middle. The ending supplies more than one surprise, however, and ties in with the beginning in a very nice, tight fashion. In the end, I believe we've seen the creation of a great, new (and unexpected) villain in the Batman universe - one very much in the keeping and style of the earliest ones created by bob Kane, himself.
