Rift was surprisingly good, and I'm looking forward to the next book, Rise.

I seriously didn't like Alistair, though. He kept mistreating Ember, and the way he betrayed the Guard by easily crossing over to Eira's side really infuriated me.

Barrow was kind of what I expected him to be; tall, dark, and handsome, that sorta stuff. All mysterious-y and whatnot. He was a pretty good guy, and didn't push Ember when it came to anything.

Eira's...change made me feel disheartened. She was a pretty good person, but Bosque Mar totally corrupted her. I suppose I expected her transformation, but it didn't make me feel any better.

And Ember...
Ember's a fiery girl with a tough personality. She doesn't like to show her tears or fear, and she pushed through things if she can. She helped to make the story come alive, but that part with Barrow...when she was waiting for him. She just easily accepted that. I mean, it was their first kiss. But she wanted to move on to that practically immediately. Girl moves fast. But, even though that kind of messed up my image of her, she's still a pretty amazing character.
