The Thing About Georgie

Recommended for EL410 at Chase Academy
Offers an interesting perspective - the protagonist, Georgie is a dwarf. He's also just a kid dealing with typical kid problems like a new sibling, mean kids, and conflict amongst friends. He's definitely a relatable character for young readers. I liked the fact that his insecurities or uncertainties cause him to make choices that he later regrets.
The author's interjections can feel a bit gimmicky at times, but I do like how she gives readers specific tasks to help them further imagine Georgie's perspective.
Vocabulary and sentence complexity are on target for the 410 level.
