Ah, Murakami, why couldn't you have tried harder? Couldn't you have completed this work? Or if it wasn't possible within the always-confining time-frame of 24 hours in the life of these characters, couldn't you have dropped that idea? The story's ending on a note of hope came off as forced, while the admiration for the sleeping beauty by her bookish younger sister was oddly (and not quite intentionally, I can only hope) incestuous. Meanwhile, the plot-line of the salary man who seeks to escape himself was dropped as if a weak idea that had run its course. Is this what we have to expect from future novels?

Other faithful readers speak of your going through a transition phase: can we go back to better, simpler days when your books were flawed but still lovely? Where has the unemployed, divorced wanderer of old gone? Is he trapped in a meta-reality of your own making? Has he gone off to a Greek island to escape his fans? Please, where is he? Is he, too, in his parents' house with his eyes gently but firmly closed? Wake up! We need him/you.

Yulia Why is it odd that Westerners like the book if you do and I happen not to?

Adelina Badea Why why why? Because you didn't understand nothing about Murakami

Harvee Here is my review of the book...I gave it 5 stars.
