A friend of mine picked this book up at a rural feed store and passed it along to me. Glaciers, a slim literary debut from Alexis Smith, is a gorgeous, haunting read. Protagonist Isabelle, "Belly" as her father calls her, loses herself in the past until she meets Spoke who is about to return to the military. Her journey, seeded with vintage postcards and clothes from a bygone era, brings her to a greater understanding of who she is and what she wants. While much of my daily reading skews toward mainstream, commercial fiction, Glaciers does not land in that category -- yet the story has an immense appeal that I'm confident will hook my romance-reading friends who enjoy women's fiction.
