Celine are you going to review it?

Victoria (Eve's Alexandria) I'm in two minds about whether to review or not. Nic reviewed it for Alexandria when it was on the Clarke shortlist, and so I might do an extended comment on that instead. My feelings about it are very mixed. I loved the spit and jump of the writing, but I found the protagonist, Zinzi, jarring. Too petulant and adolescent for a woman who has had such a traumatic past. I think Beukes was aiming at bitter and self-deprecating, but missed. Also, such a fantastic conceit with the animal familiars but the plot was frankly bizarre in places. I don't know what to think!

Celine Yikes. You made me want to read it even more now - just to see what I think of it! I'm going to try and get the library to order it in. Off to read Nic's review now.
