Harold Fry, an ordinary man who retired from his job at the brewery six months ago, receives a letter from Queenie Hennessy, a former work colleague; she is in a hospice and suffering from cancer. Harold writes a short, awkward note to her and sets out to post it, but decides to deliver it to her personally instead. So begins a life-affirming journey from his home in Devon to the hospice in the north of England. Along the way, Harold reviews his childhood, his marriage to Maureen, his relationship with his son David, and much more besides. His journey affects many people, and Harold finds unexpected kindness and enlightenment.
