Really enjoyed the world created in this alternate history novel.

It's a light read, but the kind of book that got me into reading as a teenager, a series based around adventure, technical details and the inklings of a relationship. There's plenty of unanswered questions to get you wanting the rest of the series.

Descriptions of the Darwinist creations in particular are lush and the Clankers machinery is equally well detailed.

Courtney Johnston I'm with you - the story isn't quite as good as the concept, but I totally fell for the idea of zeppelin whale. Also - beautiful maps in the end pages.

Tim Agree, the illustrations are lovely.

The whole concept lends itself to a graphic novel adaptation. Considering the wide range of texts that have been transformed into graphic novel/comic form, I'm surprised it hasn't.

Can only assume it's been optioned for the movie version.

Courtney Johnston You know - it maybe should have been a graphic novel from the start.
