this was a sad book in many ways. However, I am glad I read it. I found the artist and the life in Terezin very interesting. It made me research that part of history. THe fact that artwork survived and the legacy left behind is amazing. I did not think of this book as a love story, but rather historical fiction. The parts that intrigued me were in Terezin and the spirit and resilience of the people there. It was their story more than Josef's.
