"Don't Breathe a Word" is a page turner. Part of the appeal is that it difficult to ever figure out what this book is: a dark fantasy, a crime drama, a psychological thriller. The characters were well-developed and likable, which is quite a feat considering how flawed they are. The plot was original, perfectly blending creepiness and suspense. Despite all that, I really struggled between giving this 3 or 4 starts. The process of reading this book was great fun. The ending, however, felt cheap and was a real let down. Ultimately, I'm willing to overlook the flawed ending for the sheer entertainment reading this novel brought me.
