I wanted to like this more. It was an easy read, but it made me not really like the author. Not even because of her parenting style (some of it was funny when I saw the random things my parents/other parents would do) but because she continuously touted it as a success, with admittedly having no idea what other families were like behind closed doors, the same way her children were angels to the outside world but not always at home.

I think it's summed up by this quote (err, don't think it's a spoiler if you know what it's about...)

"Privately, he’d tell me furiously to show more restraint or to stop making crazy overgeneralizations about “Westerners” and “Chinese people.” “I know you think you do people a huge favor by criticizing them, so that they can improve themselves,” he’d say, “but have you ever considered that you just make people feel bad?”"
