I really enjoyed this book, and am a little surprised by some of the reviews I've read. The only negative thing I can think of is that I found the wording during Clare's first vision a little jumbled and hard to follow. That being said, it didn't happen again in the rest of the book, so it wasn't a big enough issue for me to dwell on it, as it didn't majorly detract from the good points of the story.
Murder, mystery, visions, and a love of sewing and re-purposing! I LOVE this story plot! Besides Clare being an unique, artistic and passionate character, my favorite thing about this book is her receiving her visions through touching clothing that people had worn during times of high emotion. Clare was handed down a "gift" of being able to see visions through her Grandmother, and they both inherited it from Clare's Great Grandmother, Josie, who was born and then swaddled into a wedding dress being altered after her mother was brutally murdered. I think there is a lot to be said for the idea of tapping into visions through the use of clothing. It makes sense that clothing worn by someone during traumatic experiences or extreme emotional periods would infuse that energy into it's fibers. After all, many religions, shamans, etc.,teach about objects being able to absorb negative or positive energy, and how to cleanse that energy. In this book, Clare's gift is to be able to "feel" the energy and then decide if she should act on the snippets of information she receives.
The story flowed well, I felt connected to the characters, and I think teens and young adults will really enjoy this story. I would definitely recommend this book!
