** spoiler alert ** I loved the first half of this book. A middle aged childless couple in 1920's Alaska build a snow girl one stormy night and soon after, Faina comes into their lives wearing the snow girl's mittens and hat. The scenes of the snowball fight, the chicken plucking, the evolving friendship with the Benson's and the setting of building a life in the harsh wilderness were all wonderful. The is-she-or-isn't-she-real-ness of Faina was intriguing and I found myself as happy as Mabel with the little life they built.

Amy Thank god somebody felt the same way! I loved the book...but what an anti-climax at the end! I couldn't believe that was it over, just like that!

Laurie Notaro I felt the same way.
