This book was a Goodreads Giveaway, thank you.

Regency isn't normally an era that I enjoy, but this book was a well written, pleasant surprise. The feel was right for the era which is often what throws me off in reading books in this setting.

Madeleine Vaillant comes across as a strong woman confined by the rules of the era and her position in life. When scandal could completely ruin a woman, leaving her at the mercy of her family, she takes a huge risk in stepping foot on the stage even though she uses another name and makes sure she is disguised by her character costumes. Also, who would ever connect the quiet, often ill, Madeleine with the feisty, brilliant actress?

Ferguson's past has been touched by scandal including the death of his father and brother, the rumor of madness, and his taste for the wrong women. But since inheriting the title and finding his younger twin sisters in his care, he's had to made a few choices that have forced him to grow up. Not entirely, but enough to make a difference.

A well written, entertaining historical romance.
