Enjoyable alternate history look at "what if the Russians had attacked the Allies at the end of WWII?"... it's a bit gory in parts & filled with "soldier" language - which is realistic but off-putting to some.

I think of Conroy's books as alternative versions of Herman Wouk's WINDS OF WAR - they follow a lot of plotlines that intersect w/historical events & figures... but they aren't terribly deep.

Still, I'm looking forward to reading more of his works.
