I felt like a passive observer in a filthy house of squabbling siblings. The story contains unlikeable characters - even the narrator didn't get my sympathy despite her awkward situation. As usual, Shriver's liberal use of adjectives makes this a highly descriptive story and sometimes her sentence structures had me re-reading them to understand.
There's not much a plot, this is a character driven story. Although the ending was a little tidy, it wasn't disappointing, especially since the compulsion to know how it ends was what kept me reading.
Overall, this book was all right.
