This was much closer to the kind of writing I'd been expecting from this series. The rather dull Will was kept to the sidelines for this one, in favor of the Drew children. The pace was much better, I thought, than in the previous two novels, and there was a greater sense of menace, even if the book doesn't dive fully into the potential for horror it sets up. I did admire the deft way Susan Cooper contrasted the workings and motivations of the Light and Dark through the eyes of the Greenwitch: right up till that point, there did seem to be little difference, a trait I'm sure Ms Cooper played up on purpose, to make the Greenwitch's speech that much more powerful. Excellent way to expound on the nature of humanity and morality, and also a much faster read, for me, than its predecessors.
