Chasing Midnight
by Randy Wayne White
by Randy Wayne White
Not even close to the quality of the earlier Doc Ford novels. Thankfully instead of my usual purchase, I borrowed this from my local library.
Authors, like readers, get bored with characters over a long series. I think that either White is bored with the Ford character or he is trying to find a new direction to take the series. The last two or three efforts have not measured up to the first nine or ten.

Jim: Agree with you on everything you said. So disappointing because I just loved the first ten or so and the last three, not so much. At least I'm not thinking 'there's something wrong with me.'

Several years ago I did an Amazon review of one of White's Doc Ford books. I gave him a mulligan in the review due to the hurricanes that had hit his area while he was writing the book. Looking back, that book was the beginning of the change White was giving Doc. Oh, well, there are other thriller authors out there just waiting for me to find them.
Let me know when you do find an author you like. And I remember that book, not the name but remember his comment about writing it during the hurricane. I'm partial to books set in Florida because I know Florida so well. In Boston now with Spenser, though!
I definitely have to agree with you about the last few books not being worth the time of day. After I read the one before this one I told myself that was it, no more RWW. BUT on my last visit to the library I picked up this one anyway. Well thank you very much for refreshing my memory. This will go back to the library unread.
