This is the fourth in a series of five novels revolving around the life of Dante Valentine. She is a powerful psychic whose abilities are focused on the dead (i.e., necromancy). This means she can speak to the dead, and she can allow them to speak through her. However, this ability seems almost secondary to the story arc of the series. While hiding from Lucifer and her promise to him, Dante finds herself drawn back to her old home town when a close friend calls her for help. But simple revenge just won't do when Dante's friend is murdered.

*personal complaint*
If you happen to read this series close together, you will notice the author's habit of describing Dante's reaction as "nauseous, vomiting, sick feeling in her stomach, etc." Her editor should have been looking for this repetitiousness more closely; it actually becomes annoying to this reader after book three.
